Overview : KOI in Japan is one of the species that comes from the family of carp. They are known for their aesthetic beauty and a number of varieties based on color combination and design. It does not require food feeding especially during winter when the temperature drops down. Their metabolism falls inactive during this season and too much feeding might result to sickness and death of the fish. They are also classified as bottom feeder. Therefore feeding can only be done once a day after winter season. There are about 80 varieties of koi in the market now. They differ from each other by their scales design. Because of this breeding process, Nishikigoi was grown eventually which is known as a "living jewel". Being a king of decorative fish, Nishikigoi symbolize Japanese customs and tradition. They are believed to signify love, friendship, courage and perseverance. While among Chinese, they are considered lucky charms. Most of the breeders enjoy watching colorful koi swimming gracefully in their ponds.
