Why is there no guarantee for Tosai regarding gender?
Tosai or yearlings (12 months or less), are too small to tell. However all other Koi that we sell to you are guaranteed.
How important is bloodline?
It's all about genes...
When you buy a Koi, it's bloodline counts considerably more for it's asking price than any other factor. In Japan, breeders are aware from an early age of a Koi's potential, and it is this potential that makes the hobby as elusively tempting as it is. You can never be sure if the 30cm Koi you bought will develop into a stunner, or just an average Koi. Bloodlines help tilt the scales in your favor.
Also a good bloodline has a far higher probability of producing a good or exceptional quality Koi than an unknown, or unproven bloodline. This is reflected in the price asked for the Koi.
What are the quality levels for Koi?
Pond Quality
Pond quality Koi can be purchased at local pet shops and breeders. Mostly this type of Koi is bred locally with a mixed blood line and no previous record. Often it is not known who did the breeding and most are not suitable for competition. However, they are very inexpensive to buy and enjoyable in the pond.
Ornamental Quality
Ornamental Koi are not bad quality. They may have been bred from good quality parents, have good blood lines, good conformation, and beautiful color. The only difference between ornamental and show quality Koi is the pattern. In most show quality Koi, the very important in addition to the body conformation, skin, edge of pattern and evenness of color. Some ornamental Koi may even be used as breeding parents.
Show Quality
There are many requirements to be considered when selecting show quality Koi. They should have:
Good body conformation.
Good shiny skin.
Sharp pattern edge.
Evenness of color in the pattern.
Overall well balanced patterns.

Do you ship air cargo to the nearest airport near me?
Yes. However there is a minimum order of $300 and to only major airports in the Continental U.S.A. only. It is your (the customer's) responsibility to pick up shipment at destination airline's cargo facility. Please email us for shipping fee.
I paid already. When am I going to receive my Koi?
We ship once a week, no later then Wednesday to avoid weekend delays. Your Koi(s) are always packed in double heavy-duty bags pumped with oxygen. Also we use styro foam installation along with ice packaging if order(s) is going to destinations of very warm/hot climate.
What is the sales tax?
California residents are charged a 8.275% sales tax. All other states, no sales tax.
What is your return policy for live Koi?
We cannot accept returns for health reasons.
