Activated carbon has long been used for filtration media when super clean water is desired. Carbon has the natural ability to absorb high amounts of organic solids such as chemicals or pesticides that may go into pond water. Carbon will also absorb medications used on fish. Activated carbon has also been shown to have the ability to remove tannins that cause "tea-colored" water. Use approximately 1-1/2 cupfuls for every 100 gallons of pond water. Place in mesh bag and set in moving water. In a pond, skimmer or Biofalls is a good location.
Replace carbon every four to five weeks as needed.
Bio Balls - Good surface area. Super lightweight-great for those who don't want to lift out heavier media for cleaning. Will never deteriorate. Fish safe. Enables handling of large biological loads with smaller filter area.
One gallon = approximately 225 bio-balls = surface area of approximately 21.5 sq.ft. Use approximately 1 gal. per 500 gallons
Savio Springflo Bio-Filter Media is a polypropylene and calcium carbonate ribbon.
The embossed diamond pattern of the Savio Springflo creates millions of dimples to rapidly secure and develop bacteria. Easy to use and maintain, inexpensive, and resists channeling, clogging, and compaction in up-flow and horizontal flow environments.
180 square feet of surface area per box. Fills 2-3 cubic feet.
Each box is enough to filter approximately 1000 gallons.
